Problem 1: “The Hustle”
Musicians constantly hustle for work to have financial stability; they have to stand out from their competition, attract audiences and be unique. In today’s world a musician’s main sources of income is performing live shows (highest transaction rates) and/or teaching music (long-term contracts funded by institutions). With audio-streaming and video-streaming companies diluting record sales and music video sales, a musician’s best options to maintain a living when they don’t have enough work are teaching, freelance work outside of music, getting a second job, or giving up music as a career. With the weight of the COVID-19 pandemic practically shutting down the live event and music industry, musicians need a solution more than ever to capture interest quickly and help them get back on their feet.
This problem is very popular, reoccurring daily. Thousands of musicians need a solution and fast!
1st Goal: “Stand Out and Quickly”
Find a way to help musician’s captivate audiences quickly and easily by standing out from normal music events and competing musicians.
We are going to use bright lights with to the music to stimulate audiences visually; visual stimulation is the most powerful sensory input for humans.
Problem 2: “Limited Creativity”
Professional musicians are always in search for new ideas, creative development and new ways to express themselves. One of the problems working with most venues and organizations is building a live show around the venue and event; the lighting shows are not interactive and artistic possibilities are limited due to space, equipment, personnel, structure, timeline and choreography. Venues and technical directors usually favor “what works” with their equipment and personnel over “what’s possible”, ultimately limiting what performers can and cannot do, or play and cannot to play.
2nd Goal: “Allow unlimited creativity”
Provide a tool that allows artists and venues to be more expressive and promote creative growth without relying on venue equipment, personnel or space.
We are going the build a controller completely driven by the musician and their music in realtime, allowing every performance to be unique and organic. Our tool doesn’t rely on special equipment, doesn’t need additional personnel to operate, and is only limited in possibilities but the musician’s skill level and their imagination; as is their music.
Problem 3: “The Musician’s Time and Money?”
The most successful and professional-looking music events are very expensive and take lots time to create a great looking show. They require hiring a lighting designer or technical director for hundreds of hours building a show around the venue(s), renting and shipping equipment, hiring operators to setup, run and breakdown the equipment, spending hundreds of hours on rehearsal time for musicians and stage crews…musician’s don’t have the time or money to pull this off unless they are funded by an institution or organization. Even if musicians are backed by an organization, there are so many moving parts to executing a great show; it only takes one issue to cause problems.
3rd Goal: “Cutting out the overhead”
Provide a tool that is affordable, easily works with any venue, and doesn’t require the need for additional equipment, hire additional personnel, or extensive time in rehearsals and setup.
We are going to design our controller around the musician; easy to use while performing live, affordable on a musician's salary, versatile to a musician’s equipment, easy to setup, and work for any kind of venue. Our controller doesn’t need someone else to operate, works without additional equipment needed, and has the ability to control any DMX stage lights the venue already has. We want to reduce as much overhead costs as humanly possible!
